It's no secret that the people of Japan, love Sherry Wines, with more than 150 events taking place in Japan this year for International Sherry Week it was the perfect time to show the locals of Jerez why Japanese cuisine pairs perfectly with the wines.
Japanese Champion Venenciadora Momoko Izumi, currently based in Jerez organised a very special event in Bodegas Faustino González, together with Japanese Restaurant Nishibi of Sevilla and The Sherry Club Tokyo. It was a truly international event, demonstrating the passion and respect between the two cultures.
Selling out almost instantly, the event was one of the hottest tickets in town, with 50 people in attendance including International Sherry Week Campaign Director Chelsea Anthon.
The menu was designed by Kosei Takakura of restaurant Nishibi Sevilla and the wines selected by both Momoko and Jaime González of Bodegas Faustino Gonzalez. Meanwhile in Japan, Chef Shinichiro Shugama from the Sherry Club Tokyo prepared the same menu for guests.
Lunch was elaborately displayed in a traditional Bento Box, with two layers of Japanese cuisine made with much love. Guests were guided through their Bento boxes by the hosts, providing tips on how to enjoy each item with a different Sherry Wine and also how to manoeuvre chopsticks!
