The gala commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Designation of Origin was opened through an official ceremony chaired by Beltrán Domecq, Chairman of the Regulatory Council of Sherry Wines, and the mayor of Jerez, Mamen Sanchez.
With this presentation, the Regulatory Council made a clear statement of the reason for the celebrations,
to pay tribute to each and every one of the people who have dedicated their lives to promote, protect and defend a unique and invaluable heritage for the past 80 years, profoundly linked to the culture, people and history of this region.
Specifically, it was on January 19th, 1935 when the Consejo Regulador D.O Jerez-Xeres-Sherry was born, with the publication in the "Gaceta de Madrid 'Rules of Procedure, the first D.O in Spain.
