The excitement is mounting, bar and restaurant staff are getting ready, and the bottles are being lined up – the 10th international Sherry Week is just around the corner.
From 6-12 November, Sherry-lovers from Argentina to Australia, Brazil to Japan, with Spain, the UK and USA as the usual big-hitters, will savour the distinctively delicious flavours of these wines from Southern Spain. Through tastings, pairings, cocktails and this year’s fabulous new Sherry Routes, aficionados of the nuanced range of wines from Jerez and the surrounding area will learn that there is always more to discover – whether matching artichokes with Amontillado, or making a Fino Negroni.

SHERRY ROUTES
For the 10th anniversary, Sherry-lovers can enjoy the new Sherry Routes, taking in a number of participating bars, wine stores and restaurants, in the following cities:
Europe: Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, and (of course) Jerez; London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Manchester.
North and South America: Toronto; New York, San Francisco, Washington DC, San Diego; Buenos Aires and São Paulo.
Asia and Australia: Tokyo; Sydney.
It's not too late to register your event and form part of a dedicated Sherry Week city route.
OTHER EVENTS
UK
Together with the dedicated Sherry Routes in London, Cardiff and Edinburgh, the UK will see more than 300 events. For the first time in Sherry Week history, a series of in-person masterclasses will be hosted by D.O. Jerez Communications Director Carmen Aumesquet. These will take place at Booths wine stores in Clitheroe (6 November), Ripon (7 November) and Knutsford (8 November), as well as in Waitrose stores in Worcester (also 8 November), Oxford Street (9 November), and Kings Cross (10 November). In addition, more than 200 Majestic wine stores across the country will be opening Sherry bottles for all-day tastings throughout the entire week.
USA
Sherry routes are in full swing in New York, Washington and San Francisco.
Cesar Saldaña, President of the D.O. Jerez, will be in New York participating in a series of events including the first-ever Feria En Rama at the Hotel Chelsea (6 November), with a blind tasting contest of Lustau sherries, and prizes of a CSWS online sherry specialist course plus a tasting kit. Enjoy the Sherry specials and highlights available by the glass, bottle, or flight at Mercado Little Spain.
In Washington DC, the ruta includes an array of events from a Cocktail Competition (6 November), Sherry Happy Hour with Oysters (7-11 November), Sherry Flights and special pours with a special appearance by Sherry Week Ambassador Chantal Tseng (6 November), and even Agatha Christie book club (12 November).
Back for a second year, El Lopo bar’s Sherry Week Bingo has more than doubled, with 24 bars in the San Francisco Bay Area. Get a line of five bars on your bingo card, and you win a prize.
SPAIN
JEREZ
At La Carboná, Owen Morgan from the 44 Group will offer a nine-course tasting menu paired with Sherries (8 November). This spectacular dinner in a classic venue will feature delicious dishes using local seasonal ingredients prepared by the renowned British chef, restaurateur and Sherry Week Ambassador, in collaboration with chef Javier Muñoz, with Sherry pairings selected by Antonio and Silvia Flores of Gonzalez Byass.
Lovers of tabancos (who isn’t?) will enjoy the Sherry and cheese pairing event (11 November) at El Guitarrón de San Pedro. Five sherries will be tasted, along with artisan goat’s cheeses from Cádiz.
MADRID
Cadiz gastronomy specialist Lambuza Abacería & Tapas is offering a pairing menu with Andalucian-inspired dishes and Sherries fromJerez and Sanlucar (6-10 November), while at 1862 Dry Bar you can try four innovative Sherry cocktails.
SEVILLA
Taste Manzanillas with a variety of ageing from Bodegas Barbadillo at Lama la Uva (10 November), and on the same day, mixologist Eduardo Rodriguez will be wowing all comers with his Sherry concoctions at Premier Cocktail Bar.
BARCELONA
Florería Atlántico, the renowned Argentinian cocktail bar located at Brassero Atlántico restaurant, will be offering a special Sherry Week menu throughout the seven days, consisting of two Sherry cocktails matched with dishes. Tastebuds will be tingling at Magatzem Escola, where Sherry Educator Sharon Grundy will lead a tasting of five Sherries paired with cheese and chocolate (9 and 10 November), for the ultimate savoury-sweet combination. From 8-12 November, the cocktail terrace of Palo Cortao will be transformed into a Sherry bar, offering five styles of Sherries, each with a pairing.
BRAZIL
The Sherry route in Sao Paulo has more than 50 venues, with both established Sherry Week participants and new converts to the Sherry scene. On 11 November at Oka Caburé’s Brazilian Sherry Fair, you will be able to taste a range of Sherries from La Guita, Valdespino, Real Tesoro, Gonzalez-Byass, Fernando de Castilla, Sanchez-Romate, La Ina, Barbadillo, and Hidalgo wineries.
ARGENTINA
Bread and wine are two essential basics for life, and at Pain et Vin in Buenos Aires, they offer a carefully curated selection of Sherry Wines, along with sourdough loaves baked in a wood-fired oven, artisan cheeses, and creative dishes.
CHINA
Sherry-lovers in Shanghai have a treat on 6 November: a ten-course Sherry pairing dinner created by Chef Borja Sánchez from Andújar. Traditional Andalusian dishes with a modern spin will be paired with 11 special and rare Sherry wines imported by Moni's Sherry World.
SOCIAL MEDIA IMPACT
These are just a few of the highlights taking place for this year’s Sherry Week around the world, with the fabulous new Sherry routes - in no less than 18 cities on four continents - claiming the spotlight.
